Ambulances for the Prisons

Jammu - J&K, November 28th '2013: As a step towards improving the Health Care in Prisons the State Government gave sanction for the purchase of Seven Ambulances which were distributed to Jail Superintendents by the Director General of Prisons, J&K, Shri K. Rajendra Kumar, IPS. The Ambulance Service for the Prisons would essentially minimise the delays that can be encountered in getting emergency response to the ailing prison inmates.

The J&K Prisons Department endeavours to provide access to continuum of health care services which include diagnosis, treatment, prevention and health education to all prison inmates. Ambulance Service is ideally placed to be a part of the first line in the continuum of health services in Prisons which can contribute immensely to treat and transfer the ailing inmates. It would help the Prison Medical Officers in providing timely care which can improve the clinical outcomes for patients in life threatening conditions.

In order to ensure that the ailing inmates receive medically necessary health care, directions were issued to the Prison Medical Officers and Medical staff to accompany patients during emergencies in the ambulance to Government Hospitals.
