Annual Jail Superintendents Conference inaugurated by Shri S. K. Mishra, Director General of Prisons, Jammu & Kashmir
Jammu - J&K, March 2nd '2017: Two days Annual Jail Superintendents Conference was inaugurated today on 2nd March 2017 by the Director General of Prisons Shri S. K. Mishra, IPS. Dr. M.S. Lone, Dy. Inspector General of Prisons, all Jail Superintendents & key Prisons staff attended the conference. The Conference was organised with the aim of sharing ideas for improving the Prison Management System and providing opportunities for professional development of the correctional administrators.
During the conference an award ceremony was conducted in which the recipients of prestigious President’s Correctional Service Medal and Director General’s Prison Medal were honoured. The outstanding prison officers/officials were recognized for their efforts in going above and beyond for the safe custody of inmates and significant contributions in the field of corrections.
During the inaugural address, the Director General of Prisons emphasised on the role of staff in meeting organized objectives and the need to adopt modern technology for improving the security in the Prisons as well as Best Prison Practices. He said expansion of the Reformatory and Rehabilitative programmes stands first on the Department’s Agenda followed by Staff Welfare and Infrastructure development. He dealt in length with the essentials of three R’s i.e., Rehabilitation, Reformation and Reintegration of the Prison inmates & the steps that are to be taken for achieving the organizational objectives.
During the Conference Presentations were made by all Jail Superintendents related to the working of their respective Jails & imperative issues pertaining to the security and correctional services. The Presentations were followed by an Open Discussion on Jail Management, infrastructural requirements, Recruitment, Staff Development, Reformation and Rehabilitation of offenders, Medical Care, Implementation of various Judicial Rulings/ MHA advisories, Fiscal, technical and legal issues
