Director General of Police, Prisons, J&K Shri S.K. Mishra, IPS inaugurates the Institute of Correctional Services

Jammu - J&K, October 6th 2017: The Director General of Police, Prisons, J&K Shri S.K. Mishra, IPS today inaugurated the Institute of Correctional Services at Mishriwalla Jammu. The Institute shall provide basic training to the Jail staff and pre promotion, refresher course and short term training programmes shall also be organized in the Institute. Earlier the Department did not have its own Training Institute for the staff and the subordinate staff was trained at PTA Udhampur. The DGP Prisons also set open the first training programme for newly promoted Assistant Superintendents and Head Warders which will last for two weeks. The programme will help the Officers to meet the demands of the Department in positions of higher responsibility.

The methodology that shall be adopted for conducting the course shall employ both academic training as well as field training. Active pedagogic diversified methods such as brain storming, roles plays, case studies, orientation talks and work place exercises shall be applied for training as informed by the Principal of the Institute.

Speaking on the occasion the DGP Prisons, J&K emphasized that training plays a pivotal role in staff development and is the key to organizational success. He said that the nature of duties of prison staff is different compared to the Police personnel as such there was a need of having a training Institute for Jail staff to equip them with better prison management skills and also to acquaint them with recent trends in correctional services for effective implementation of reformation programmes for the inmates. He informed that the Department is soon going to conduct National level residential training programmes of for Prison Officers of different states in collaboration with BPR&D. He expressed hope that the trainees of the first batch will get benefited with the training programme and will develop a better understanding of the contemporary concept of Prisons.
